
As an HR professional, I remember the very first time I was put in the position to make life-changing career decisions for our employees. What I distinctly remember is that I thought none of the employees in my department would be impacted. Instead, following our senior leadership team meeting to discuss the path forward, I walked out of that room with the understanding that seven – yes, 7 – of my employees would be unemployed the next week. Almost half of my team. It was gut-wrenching.
โค๏ธโ๐ฉนThat was 16 years ago and there is still a scar from that experience; one that I hope never fully heals. The raw feeling carried me through tough restructures and conversations that I will never forget and will never take for granted. There is no crystal ball ๐ฎ. There is leadership, planning, emotional intelligence, and communication.
